Cheap Holidays to Lanzarote

The most easterly Canary Island, Lanzarote, is famed for its vibrant volcanic scenery. Holidays in Lanzarote are all about the golden beaches plus the shallow waters are just the trick for children. The natural parks that dot the island are an incredible experience offering views, hiking trails and a really fun day out. Balmy evenings are complimented by fantastic local restaurants and cosy bars where you can easily enjoy a glass of wine or soft drink. Great weather, good for families or couples, there's no pressure from holidays in Lanzarote, they're made to go at your pace, whatever that is. Book self-catered or all inclusive holidays to Lanzarote with Purple Travel.

Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is one of the island's biggest resorts but has managed to retain an air of sophistication. The marina features upmarket dining and boutiques while the promenade is great for tasting locally sourced seafood. Livelier karaoke and disco bars can be found around town and on top of this you have 3 great beaches to choose from. Generally speaking, Playa Blanca definitely is one amongst the reasons that put Lanzarote on the list of the best and most visited holiday islands.

Puerto del Carmen

On the southeast side of the island you'll find Puerto del Carmen, a place that first started swinging its way onto the tourism scene in the sixties going from fishing village to lively resort. Host to a selection of Lanzarote hotels, the beach promenade doubles up as the main nightlife strip for bars, clubs and restaurants. To see Puerto del Carmen’s roots, head to the old town where you'll find some of the more authentic eating joints.

Costa Teguise

Once the haunt of affluent Spanish families in the seventies, Costa Teguise is the perfect place for a family holiday with the resort geared towards families. Laze around on the sandy beaches, enjoy top-class windsurfing facilities and lively, family-focused evening entertainment in some of the best Lanzarote hotels. If you want to take a break from sunbathing on the great playas around the area, head to the magnificent Fundacion Cesar Manrique museum and learn more about the life and work of the renowned Canarian Architect.

Nature

The island has received World Biosphere Reserve Status from UNESCO in order to protect the Lanzarote environment. If you make use of your holidays in Lanzarote in order to explore the mainland, you'll find mountain peaks and black rock formations shaped by the fire and fury of the surrounding volcanoes. The nature of this holiday island is so otherworldly in places that you could be forgiven for thinking that you took a flight from the UK and landed on the moon! Timanfaya National Park deserves a visit, nicknamed the Fire Mountains, the park is known for the craters of more than a hundred volcanoes. The Jameos del Agua and nearby Cueva de los Verdes are two of the most amazing and distinctive sights to see that bear the mark of molten lava, extending into the longest underwater volcanic tube in the world! Lanzarote holidays packages always come packed with fun!

Family Attractions

Head to the Wild Wild West and experience an authentic Western theme show complete with whip-cracking and toe-tapping in Rancho Texas. If you ever get tired of Lanzarote playas, head to Acua Water Park in Corralejo for some of the best slides and pools this holiday island has to offer! In case that you still want something different and guaranteed to make your family holidays to Lanzarote even more unique, head to Puerto Calero in Las Palmas and embark on an amazing Submarine Safari!

Shopping

Make sure you have ample space in your suitcase while on the way to your next holidays in Lanzarote as you can do some serious shopping at the Canaries biggest weekly market in Teguise. You'll find over 360 stalls packed into the pretty plaza and surrounding streets. Pick up unique souvenirs such as Canarian lacework, food, leather, jewellery, paintings and other handicrafts. This is accompanied by a carnival atmosphere of music and dancers which will keep you well entertained throughout your shopping session.

Sports

The windy shores of Lanzarote offer great waves for surfing. The resorts around the island can boast of their large variety of entertainments on offer and you can find anything from kitesurfing in Farmara to golfing in Costa Teguise and Puerto Calero if you so wish! Most Lanzarote playas are well organised and you can rent equipment such as scuba gear and snorkels to explore the rich underwater landscape. If you want to live your Lanzarote holidays like a VIP, one of the multitude of boat charters around the island can always take you aboard.

The weather in Lanzarote is warm all year-round, rarely falling below 16C in winter and 25C in the summer; making it a great place for winter sun. In the summer months you'll find that there is no rainfall whatsoever and this helps in enjoying Lanzarote playas to the fullest while working on your tan!

Carnival

For carnival, Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen throw the biggest showstoppers in town. Each year a different theme is picked - they've done everything from Vikings to cowboys and Indians in the past. The island really comes alive with parades, fireworks and dance performances, so if you happen to book your holidays to Lanzarote during that period, this certainly is an experience not to be missed.

Dia de los Reyes

January 6th, Epiphany is a big deal in Lanzarote. This is the day when the three wise men arrived in Bethlehem and so you'll find their doppelgangers riding camels through the main towns. Rather than gold, frankincense or myrrh, they chuck out sweets and pressies to the cheerful crowds making this one of the biggest Lanzarote fiestas.

Dia de Canarias

To mark their independence from Spain in 1983, each 30th May everyone celebrates this occasion with a plethora of entertainment and activities. You'll come across bands playing folk songs, thesbians putting on plays and sporty-types engaging in traditional sports such as stick-fighting.

Just came back from a few days in Lanzarote
It was blissful. I go regularly, so nice to be able to revisit the same place, and spend some time in the sunshine.

Great for golf
I travelled to Lanzarote last year for a golfing holiday and it was just great. The weather is super and the course in Costa Teguise is very playable. It’s not too far from home and the welcome we received was second to none. I would go back again.

Lovely island
Lanzarote’s fab. There’s a lovely Marina here, and if you walk around you should be able to find some good deals on food and drinks etc. Very clean area and we felt very safe. Would recommend for families or couples looking for a relatively quiet holiday.
